  • The submission file is in Microsoft Word document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.

Author Guidelines

The reviewed journal Synopsis: Text, Context, Media publishes relevant research in literary studies and linguistics. Before submitting the article, please read the recommended topics and publications in recent issues.

1 Submission

We accept articles in Ukrainian, English, German and Polish, as well as new translations of outstanding scientific and art texts into Ukrainian with commentaries. Manuscripts must be original, unpublished, and not under consideration elsewhere.

The journal accepts original research articles presenting the results of completed theoretical or empirical studies in philology. Submissions must clearly formulate a research problem, apply an appropriate methodology, and provide well-substantiated conclusions. Articles should align with the scope of the journal and demonstrate scholarly novelty, practical significance, and contribution to the advancement of the relevant discipline.

Review papers should provide a comprehensive overview of the current state of research on a specific issue in philology. They are expected to analyse key theoretical approaches and research directions, identify gaps in existing studies, and propose avenues for further research. Authors are required to conduct a critical evaluation of the literature, synthesise prior findings, and articulate new research questions. Reviews must be objective, well-structured, and based on relevant and up-to-date sources.

Reviews of current scientific publications should highlight their strengths and controversial aspects and consider the publications in their appropriate scientific context.

The editorial board accepts new translations of outstanding scientific and literary texts into Ukrainian for publication. The accompanying scientific comments should justify the choice of the text for translation, explain its history and features, and reveal the nuances of the translator's work.

We recommend submitting articles with a text volume of 3000–6000 words (0.5–1.0 author’s sheet), reviews — 1000–3000 words (0.2-0.5 author’s sheet).

The materials should be submitted to the editorial board using the OJS "Synopsis: Text, Context, Media".

2 Style and structure

The structure, design, and references of the article must conform to APA 7th Ed. standards. (Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association, Seventh Edition)

The title, summary, and keywords in Ukrainian and English should be added to the text of the article. The volume of each summary with the keywords is 2000–2300 characters. The annotation should include information on relevance, subject, problem, applied methods, main research findings, their novelty and prospects for further study.

Authors are expected to use an academic style and correct terminology, avoiding journalistic or emotionally coloured expressions.

Citing and execution of references to sources in the text of the article are carried out according to the APA 7th Ed. standards. For example: (Petrenko, 2019, p. 18), (Petrenko, 2019), “in the work of P. Petrenko (2019)”. We recommend, as an example, the articles published in our journal in recent years.

We recommend citing relevant, high-quality academic sources, including peer-reviewed journal articles and monographs. The use of secondary or non-academic sources is acceptable only when they are directly relevant to the research.

The heading “References” is located after the text of the article. This section contains all sources mentioned and quoted in the text, designed in accordance with the standards of APA 7th Ed. To ensure compliance with standards, we advise using online services. ● If a cited source has a DOI, it must be indicated in the standard format (https://doi.org/...).

If there are references to sources written in non-Latin letters, then “References (translated and transliterated)” should be given after the heading “References”. In this section, all types of work are provided in accordance with the APA 7th Ed. standard. Here are descriptions of the sources written in non-Latin letters:
— the surname and an initial(s) of the author, and the publisher are transliterated or submitted in English;
— the name of the work — is transliterated and translated into English;
— the work type, accompanying data, and the place of the edition are translated into English.

Transliteration in Latin letters should be performed according to the following standards:
— for the Ukrainian language — Resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine dated January 27, 2010, No. 55;
— for the Russian language — US Department of State Transliteration Rules.

3 Anonymity

To ensure a double-blind review, the article text file should not include the author's name or initials (including hidden text or file properties), or any mention of the author's affiliation with quoted publications.

In a separate accompanying file, it is necessary to provide:
— UDC index;
— in Ukrainian and English: name, surname, patronymic (if available), affiliation with a scientific or educational institution and its full postal address, scientific degree, position, public email address, and ORCiD iD (required) of each author;
— other additional information that may be useful to the editorial board or reviewers.

4 Responsibility of authors and Editorial Board
